Covenant Hospice is pleased to announce Covenant'
Katerpillar Kids Camp 2013. This year’s camp will be held at Camp Wesley Woods in Townsend, Tennessee on October 5 and 6.
Katerpillar Kids Camp is a special weekend day camp for children grades 1-12 who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The camp is a free community service provided by Covenant Hospice and sponsored by Variety – The Children’s Charity.
The camp provides a safe and understanding environment where similar experiences of grief can be shared. Trained camp counselors provide information and guidance as they listen with open minds, hearts, and ears to each camper. Through individual expressions, the children realize they are not alone…that there are others who can share their pain…others who are close in age, thought, and feeling.
The camp is also about fun as campers enjoy a variety of activities such as arts and crafts, story telling, music, a ropes course, and hiking. Specially trained volunteers provide guidance throughout the weekend.
"Katerpillar Kids Camp is a special and unique experience for children," says Katie McLaughlin, camp coordinator. "Children grieve, just as adults do, but oftentimes their feelings of grief are overlooked or discounted. We, as adults realize the importance of being able to express our feelings of grief. This camp allows the children that same opportunity."
Children can register for camp through September 13, 2013. Camp enrollment is limited. For more information, contact Katie McLaughlin, camp coordinator, at 865-374-0864 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
